Organise your own fundraiser

Want to organise your own event and raise money for ORFACT?

You can do what you want – whether it’s planning a dinner party with friends, or selling cakes – this is your chance to use your imagination to help orphans across the world.

Not only will you be raising money for charity, but it will be a fantastic way to jazz up your CV, or a chance to simply have a fun day with friends and family whilst still helping the needy. It’s a great opportunity to build team morale within the workplace and helps to teach basic leadership skills for students.

We offer the chance for our supporters to get involved in any way they can, and our staff will be here for help and advice along the way. We will provide you with promotional resources, such as flyers and sponsorship forms, to make sure your fundraiser is a success.

Some ideas for raising money:

-          Sponsored events e.g. silences, swims, marathons
-          Fancy dress parties
-          Talent contests
-          Where what you want day
-          Raffles
-          Collections
-          Quiz nights
-          Sports tournaments

You can also use the money you raise to buy a gift, allowing you to choose exactly where your money goes and to see how it has impacted the lives of children in need. Simply look at our Wish List and let our staff know what item you have picked. We will then ship that gift directly to our overseas projects.

Basic guidelines:

Decide what type of event you are going for and arrange when you are holding it – be sure to plan well in advance!

Where will it be held? Do you need to hire a venue, or will it be held at your house, school or workplace?

Who will be attending? Is it just family and friends, or is it a public event?

Make sure you manage you money properly – set yourself a budget and stick to it! If you need to buy items for your event, will it be worth what you raise?

Publicise your event. We can provide you with promotional resources, but you can also contact your local newspaper to advertise the event. You could create your own flyers and posters, or use social networking sites. Be sure to include our Charity Registration number (803125) on all items carrying our name.
Sponsorship forms are available from us, and please ensure donors tick the Gift Aid box! You can also have people donate money to you online through the Just Giving website, where you can create your own, personalised fundraising page.

Once you have raised the money, you can send us a cheque or transfer the money into our bank account. Look at our donations page for more information.

Just remember, whatever you decide to do, make sure it is legal and safe!

  • If you are organising public collections, a licence from your local authority is usually needed – find out how to contact your local authority here – www.direct.gov.uk. If the collection is taking place on private property, such as a supermarket, then you need you obtain written permission from the manger or owner.
  • If you are collecting money or asking for sponsorship, please do not approach strangers by yourself. It is safer and more fun if you’re in groups.
  • For organising raffles or lotteries within legal guidelines, check out www.institute-of-fundraising.org.uk to determine whether you need a licence,
  • Events in a public space require a Temporary Events Notice and Public Liability Insurance – your local authority will have more advice on this.
  • If you have food at your event, whether you are selling it or not, you still need to comply with food safety and hygiene legislation. More information can be found from your local authority environmental health department.
For any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to help you in any way we can.

So the best of luck with your event, and be sure to send us pictures!
